Lake Trasimeno Tour
- Departure Point: Punta Navaccia (Bike trail)
- Distance: 32.60 km
- Altitude Gap: 400 meters
- Difficulty level: medium
- Duration: 2h and 20 minutes
We start from Punta Navaccia traveling on the bike trail in direction Passignano.
We enter the majestic monumental avenue of cypresses that leads to the "Pischiello Farm" at which point we veer-off towards the village of "Borgo Boiano".
Arrived at the small cemetery of "Torale", we turn left for a short while on the paved road and we turn towards the small inhabited center of "Vernazzano Nuovo".
From there we lightly climb to "Tuoro" and passed the town we follow in the direction of "Lisciano Niccone" – "Mercatale".
At this point we leave the main road and continue to ascend towards the natural Park of Monte Castelluccio.
At this point the route is very pleasant, as shady forests of conifers weave themselves with luscious oak trees. Just outside of the park area (delimited by a wooden gate), we climb again on gravel road up to the top of the hill and then we roll down the hill that is rather enlivened from bumps and trenches, until we arrive at the bottom of the hill.
Here we continue straight, in light climb toward "Poggio Capanne". Hence forth, except for short and slight climbs, we travel on a pleasant ridge that degrades towards lake "Trasimeno" for almost 10 km. This is one of the most attractive and amusing slopes, at least for the kind of terrain, in the whole lake area.
Following always the higher road we arrives at a crossing with five roads that marks the boundary between Tuscany and Umbria. The right track to follow is the flat central road, with some light downhills that carries all the way down to the castle of "Montegualandro" The castle, situated on a' hill dominating the whole area of lake Trasimeno, was a natural place of defense over the pass between Umbria and Tuscany. leaving the castle we ride down all the way to a paved road and after passing few intersections we arrives at "Puntabella", and then to "Borghetto" and here we take the bike trail that brings us back to the starting point.
